2025 Q2 Letter Of Intent

CAN-DO ATTITUDE
We are problem solvers when presented with issues. We never tell someone that we can’t do something without asking questions to understand the issue and work together to come up with a plan if possible. We never make excuses for not being able to do something. We never lead with no because we may never get a chance to say yes again.
BUILDING BLOCKS
A Can-Do Mindset Begins With Us
Author / SCOTT TURCZYNSKI, COO | HRTLND Companies
Hello Team,
If there’s one thing that sets HRTLND apart, it’s our ability to face tough moments head-on with determination and grit. That’s what the “Can-Do” mindset is all about—and it’s more than just words on a wall. It’s a daily commitment to stepping up, thinking differently, and pushing forward, no matter the challenge. This past quarter, I’ve seen our Can-Do culture in action across job sites, offices, and unexpected scenarios. Whether it was jumping in to meet tight timelines, problem-solving on the fly, or lending a hand to help a coworker get across the finish line, you showed what this value truly looks like when it’s lived out.
But “Can-Do” doesn’t mean saying yes to everything—it means saying yes to doing things right. It’s asking the right questions, putting safety first, and keeping our standards high. It’s knowing when to push and when to pause. Let’s carry that momentum into the summer. Stay driven. Stay focused. And most of all, keep bringing that Can-Do spirit that continues to set HRTLND apart.
Proud to be a part of this team,
SCOTT TURCZYNSKI, COO
BUILDING BLOCKS
A Can-Do Chapter For Iowa: Why We Helped Launch ASA Iowa
Author / SCOTT TURCZYNSKI, COO • SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies
At HRTLND, one of our core values is a can-do attitude — a willingness to roll up our sleeves, find solutions, and move the industry forward. That mindset is exactly what led us to approach the National Subcontractors Association (ASA) and ask: Why doesn’t Iowa have a chapter? And more importantly: What would it take to start one?
The answer, as it turns out, was simple: leadership. So, we stepped up.
Together with a growing board of passionate professionals, we launched ASA Iowa to give our subcontractors and suppliers the voice, visibility, and resources they deserve. This chapter isn’t just another industry group. It’s a network — a rallying point — for those who want to build smarter, connect faster, and lead with integrity.
Our goal is to create a chapter that reflects Iowa’s work ethic: practical, driven, and collaborative. ASA Iowa is built for the subcontractors and suppliers who show up early, solve problems, and get the job done — often without recognition. We see you. And this chapter is for you.
ASA Iowa will help our members:
01 / Navigate contracts, compliance, and risk
02 / Gain access to decision-makers and prime contractors
03 / Learn from national best practices and local leaders
04 / Build lasting relationships in the field and beyond
If you’re reading this and wondering if it’s the right time to get involved — it is. This chapter is in its early days, and your voice, your experience, and your “can-do” mindset will help shape what comes next.
We’re proud to help lay the foundation. Now let’s build something even stronger — together.

Mental Health Awareness
Author / SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies
In our industry, we pride ourselves on physical toughness. But this quarter we’re taking a moment to recognize a different kind of strength: the courage to talk about mental health.
The truth is sobering: According to the CDC, the construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates among all occupational groups. In 2021, the suicide rate for males in construction was 56.0 per 100,000, significantly higher than the overall rate for working-age males. That means our coworkers—our friends—are at risk in ways we can’t always see. Nearly 5,000 construction workers die by suicide each year. That’s more than five times the number lost to jobsite accidents.
MENTAL HEALTH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PERIOD.
At HRTLND, our Can-Do attitude doesn’t mean muscling through stress or ignoring when things feel off. It means having the strength to speak up and the compassion to check in on each other.
Here’s what we can all do:
NOTICE THE SIGNS / Withdrawal, mood swings, fatigue, or changes in performance may be signals someone is struggling.
START THE CONVERSATION / A simple “How are you really doing?” can be a lifeline. You don’t need to have all the answers—just showing up matters.
USE RESOURCES / Confidential help is available. If you or a teammate needs support, contact HR or a supervisor. And remember, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is always open at 988. We also have an amazing resource with the platform, Marketplace Chaplains, which is dedicated to providing mental health support and wellness of all our employees. You can find that resource here: mchapusa.com
Our jobs come with pressure. Deadlines. Risks. But no deadline is worth a life. No project is more important than our people.
Let’s look out for one another—not just on the job site, but in the moments in between.
Stay safe and stay connected,
SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies

Iowa State University Administrative Services Building
Floor 1 & 2 Remodel
CLIENT | Iowa State University
Services | Window Treatments
The Administrative Services Building (ASB) was built by Iowa State University back in 1998. It was one of the first buildings on campus to feature motorized-operated shades. These were needed as they were covering a large, 2-story tall and full building length, curtainwall window system along the West façade.
At the time, the motorized shades were “top of the line” and a huge benefit to all working inside the building. Whether it be the glare reduction, added energy efficiency, thermal properties, or etc., they were all allowing ASB to be a more comfortable and productive workspace. Unfortunately, like many things in life, father time caught up with these shades, as well as many other little items throughout the building.
Due to a lack of repairs that could be done, and some items just simply unable to be fixed whatsoever, Iowa State decided it was time for an update. With our knowledge of shades and the partnership we have had over the years doing all different shapes and sizes of projects throughout campus, we were lucky enough to be their first and only call. With the help of Brenda Golwitzer w/ Convergence (Lutron rep), we were able to work with ISU to come up with a motorized shade solution.
It was decided that the Lutron Contract Roller wired motors on a standalone system was the right solution. These are powered by a low-voltage, panel-based system. This means that they will be much quieter and energy efficient than the standard hard-wired motors from the past. The Lutron shades are also set up with Intelligent Hembar Alignment (IHA) technology. This keeps all the hembars perfectly in line for a clean look both from the inside and out. These new shades would not only bring a new look to the building, but also bring it back to the “top of the line”.
Huge shoutout to Brenda Golwitzer at Convergence for always being there to help on a project from start to finish. Also, a huge shoutout to all the Facilities, Planning and Management (FPM) team up at Iowa State for trusting us with all your window treatment needs throughout campus.

As we look back on an eventful few months at HRTLND, we’re proud of the milestones we’ve achieved and the incredible work our team continues to put in. This edition of our newsletter highlights some key achievements, promotions, and community initiatives that make us who we are – a company dedicated to excellence, safety, and giving back. From celebrating retirement to welcoming new team members, we’ve had an exciting start to the year!
Jobsite Grillout!!!
HRTLND was fired up—literally and figuratively—at the Community State Bank project in Ankeny! We recently hosted a grill-out for the hardworking crew, bringing this incredible build to life. It’s been a massive team effort, and we’re proud to collaborate with such dedicated and skilled trade professionals.
A special shoutout to Ron Statler and Nick Bethards for manning the grill and living out one of our core values: Work Hard / Play Hard. Thanks to everyone on-site for your hustle and commitment—this project is shaping up to be something truly special.
Building BrAve Teams Golf Outing
We were honored to sponsor and attend the inaugural Building BrAve Teams Golf Outing & Celebration! It’s an event that holds a special place in our hearts. This incredible foundation was started by Betsy Young, wife of our very own Forrest Young, after their son Sage was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia nearly three and a half years ago.
Since then, Sage has rung the bell and completed his fight with cancer—a moment of joy and triumph that continues to inspire us all! Watching what Betsy has built with Building BrAve has been nothing short of amazing, and the impact she’s making on families navigating unexpected medical journeys is powerful.
We’re proud to support this mission and even prouder to have the entire Young family—not only Forrest, but his brothers Garrett and Tucker as part of the HRTLND team. Not only are all three Young boys working with us, but their father, Bill Young, was also a valued member of the team for about 13 years until his retirement in 2018.
The Youngs truly are part of the HRTLND family, and we’re grateful for all they’ve contributed on and off the job site.
Hard Hats w/ Heart
On May 17th, members of the building industry came together for a cause close to all our hearts—supporting the American Heart Association’s mission to end heart disease and stroke. HRTLND was proud to sponsor the 31st Annual Central Iowa Heart Walk, joining hundreds of others in walking for awareness, research, and healthier communities. It was an honor to be part of such a meaningful event and to stand alongside so many passionate advocates for heart health.
Eastern Iowa Team Building: A Hole In One!!!
We hosted our first-ever team-building event in Eastern Iowa, and it was a day to remember! The HRTLND and DA Bunch crews came together for an afternoon of golf and good times at PinSeekers. It was a blast and without a doubt, the first of many to come!
New Faces: Welcome, Ryan Luther!
We’re excited to welcome a new addition to the HRTLND team! Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Ryan Luther, who has joined our Heartland Door & Frame division as our Operations Manager. We’re glad to have him on board and look forward to the great work ahead!

This year marked our second annual Heartland Scholarship, a tradition we’re proud to continue as part of our commitment to supporting education and our community. We were thrilled to award scholarships to three outstanding recipients: (from left to right) Ruth Turczynski, Harrison Rhone, and Sophia Bleich. Their achievements and potential are truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see all the great things they’ll accomplish!
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS – Jill Sailor
ESOP Share Price Reveal Party
We also celebrated our fourth annual ESOP Share Price Reveal Party, one of the most anticipated events of the year at HRTLND. This event is a fantastic reflection of our Core Value of Family—it’s a time when we all come together to have fun, strengthen our bonds, and celebrate our shared success. From games and drinks to friendly competition, guessing the new share price, the energy was high, and the team spirit was strong.
A special shout-out goes to the five individuals who became fully vested in our ESOP this year: Jeff May, Sarosh Kiyani, Samantha Blettner, Hanna King, and Sara Johnson! They each walked away with a brand-new Grizzly cooler! It’s a big milestone, and we’re proud of you all.
This event also gives us the chance to recognize major work anniversaries. We want to congratulate Dylan Schade, Sarosh Kiyani, and Andy Gay on their 5-year anniversaries; Hannah Ehrlich, James Hutchinson, and Andy Pullen on reaching 10 years; and a huge thank you to Jill Sailer for an incredible 20 years of dedication to HRTLND. We are so grateful to each and every one of you for your hard work, loyalty, and the positive impact you’ve made.
