LETTER FROM THE CEO

Welcome To HRTLND’s Letter Of Intent (LOI)

Author / SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies

Welcome to HRTLND’s new and improved newsletter! We’ve expanded our audience to include our clients, suppliers, and partners in addition to our amazing employee audience. We’ve also gotten with the times and made this a digital newsletter in lieu of killing all of those trees:)

We think that this new title “Letter of Intent(LOI),” says a lot about us and represents some key aspects of who we are. In our construction world, we love to see an LOI as this means we’ve won a project. One of our HRTLND core values is Competitive, so this fits right in. LOI also represents intentionality to us. As a company, we want to be intentional about how we bid, how we manage, how we communicate and overall, how we add value to our customers.

Then there’s the idea of the “letter” part of LOI. Our #1 core value is Family. We believe that each and every one of you reading this is like Family to us. We want to treat each other like Family and give everyone the respect they deserve. What better way to do that than through a letter. We plan on pushing this out every couple of months and we plan on the content being ever-evolving and engaging. We hope that you enjoy what we have to share. Enjoy our LOI!

Best Regards,

SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies
SAFETY REMINDER

Safety First Always!

Author / SCOTT BLEICH, CEO | HRTLND Companies

Job-sites rarely see ideal temperatures, especially during the dog days of summer. Our workers may spend hours under the sun, which can be a huge health hazard if certain safety procedures aren’t taken. We all know that surviving the hottest days of the year ensures our workers come home safe to their families and ready to work hard/play hard into tomorrow. Here are 4 essential safety tips for everyone making projects happen in the industry.

01 | DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS
Workers on the job-site hear it all the time, but drinking fluids is the easiest and best way to beat the heat. If you wait to drink fluids until you’re thirsty, then you are probably too late and already dehydrated. Workers on the job-site need to force themselves to drink cool water or a healthy beverage every hour to ensure they stay hydrated and safe while working during extreme temperatures.

02 | DRESS ACCORDINGLY
Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing to help stay cool. If possible, find clothing and protective gear with moisture wicking properties. If you’re working in an area exposed to direct sunlight, wear sunglasses or protective shades to protect your eyes.

03 | PAY ATTENTION
If something with your body doesn’t feel right, it’s probably not. Find a cool area and sit down, even if it’s just for a minute or two. Don’t be afraid to admit that the heat is too much for you to handle. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody will do it for you.

04 | IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If something with your body doesn’t feel right, it’s probably not. Find a cool area and sit down, even if it’s just for a minute or two. Don’t be afraid to admit that the heat is too much for you to handle. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody will do it for you.

MENTAL HEALTH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PERIOD.
At HRTLND, our Can-Do attitude doesn’t mean muscling through stress or ignoring when things feel off. It means having the strength to speak up and the compassion to check in on each other.

Here’s what we can all do:

NOTICE THE SIGNS / Withdrawal, mood swings, fatigue, or changes in performance may be signals someone is struggling.

START THE CONVERSATION / A simple “How are you really doing?” can be a lifeline. You don’t need to have all the answers—just showing up matters.

Gerdin Business Building

CLIENT | Iowa State University
Services | Window Treatments

“The new Gerdin Building expansion at Iowa State University creates a dynamic nexus and intellectual center for the Ivy College of Business. The design expands the College’s ability to foster collaboration and innovation among business scholars through modern teaching methodologies, impactful research, and community engagement. BNIM and Story Construction formed an integrated design/build team in response to the university’s request for design and cost proposals. The team outlined below was organized prior to being selected by ISU for the project and incorporated a highly integrated problem-solving design methodology utilizing LEAN methodologies for design which Story Construction has defined as CP2.0. The team was tasked with not only providing a design that minimizes the impacts on natural resources and the environment, but to also provide a human-purposed setting for improved performance by students and faculty. The resulting design is focused on creating a building that is comfortable and provides a spectrum of spaces and qualities that promote the creation of community.” BNIM.COM

As we look back on an eventful few months at HRTLND, we’re proud of the milestones we’ve achieved and the incredible work our team continues to put in. This edition of our newsletter highlights some key achievements, promotions, and community initiatives that make us who we are – a company dedicated to excellence, safety, and giving back. From celebrating retirement to welcoming new team members, we’ve had an exciting start to the year!

Jobsite Grillout!!!

HRTLND was fired up—literally and figuratively—at the Community State Bank project in Ankeny! We recently hosted a grill-out for the hardworking crew, bringing this incredible build to life. It’s been a massive team effort, and we’re proud to collaborate with such dedicated and skilled trade professionals.

A special shoutout to Ron Statler and Nick Bethards for manning the grill and living out one of our core values: Work Hard / Play Hard. Thanks to everyone on-site for your hustle and commitment—this project is shaping up to be something truly special.

Building BrAve Teams Golf Outing

We were honored to sponsor and attend the inaugural Building BrAve Teams Golf Outing & Celebration! It’s an event that holds a special place in our hearts. This incredible foundation was started by Betsy Young, wife of our very own Forrest Young, after their son Sage was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia nearly three and a half years ago.

Since then, Sage has rung the bell and completed his fight with cancer—a moment of joy and triumph that continues to inspire us all! Watching what Betsy has built with Building BrAve has been nothing short of amazing, and the impact she’s making on families navigating unexpected medical journeys is powerful.

We’re proud to support this mission and even prouder to have the entire Young family—not only Forrest, but his brothers Garrett and Tucker as part of the HRTLND team. Not only are all three Young boys working with us, but their father, Bill Young, was also a valued member of the team for about 13 years until his retirement in 2018.

The Youngs truly are part of the HRTLND family, and we’re grateful for all they’ve contributed on and off the job site.

Hard Hats w/ Heart

On May 17th, members of the building industry came together for a cause close to all our hearts—supporting the American Heart Association’s mission to end heart disease and stroke. HRTLND was proud to sponsor the 31st Annual Central Iowa Heart Walk, joining hundreds of others in walking for awareness, research, and healthier communities. It was an honor to be part of such a meaningful event and to stand alongside so many passionate advocates for heart health.

Eastern Iowa Team Building: A Hole In One!!!

We hosted our first-ever team-building event in Eastern Iowa, and it was a day to remember! The HRTLND and DA Bunch crews came together for an afternoon of golf and good times at PinSeekers. It was a blast and without a doubt, the first of many to come!

New Faces: Welcome, Ryan Luther!

We’re excited to welcome a new addition to the HRTLND team! Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Ryan Luther, who has joined our Heartland Door & Frame division as our Operations Manager. We’re glad to have him on board and look forward to the great work ahead!

HRTLND Scholarships

This year marked our second annual Heartland Scholarship, a tradition we’re proud to continue as part of our commitment to supporting education and our community. We were thrilled to award scholarships to three outstanding recipients: (from left to right) Ruth Turczynski, Harrison Rhone, and Sophia Bleich. Their achievements and potential are truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see all the great things they’ll accomplish!

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS – Jill Sailor

ESOP Share Price Reveal Party

We also celebrated our fourth annual ESOP Share Price Reveal Party, one of the most anticipated events of the year at HRTLND. This event is a fantastic reflection of our Core Value of Family—it’s a time when we all come together to have fun, strengthen our bonds, and celebrate our shared success. From games and drinks to friendly competition, guessing the new share price, the energy was high, and the team spirit was strong.

A special shout-out goes to the five individuals who became fully vested in our ESOP this year: Jeff May, Sarosh Kiyani, Samantha Blettner, Hanna King, and Sara Johnson! They each walked away with a brand-new Grizzly cooler! It’s a big milestone, and we’re proud of you all.

This event also gives us the chance to recognize major work anniversaries. We want to congratulate Dylan Schade, Sarosh Kiyani, and Andy Gay on their 5-year anniversaries; Hannah Ehrlich, James Hutchinson, and Andy Pullen on reaching 10 years; and a huge thank you to Jill Sailer for an incredible 20 years of dedication to HRTLND. We are so grateful to each and every one of you for your hard work, loyalty, and the positive impact you’ve made.
