Val Air Ballroom, a cherished historic live music venue in West Des Moines, Iowa, has been a cultural cornerstone for over 80 years. Originally an outdoor dance venue in the 1940s, it evolved into a versatile space for music and community events. However, as the community expanded around it, concerns about noise emissions arose, necessitating a solution.

Enter Hildreth Construction, the honored General Contractor for the unique Val Air Ballroom project. Given the complexity and location, Val Air took a discerning approach in selecting partners, and Hildreth Construction’s expertise aligned seamlessly with the project’s requirements. HRTLND, with its exceptional experience, became a crucial trade partner, joining forces to address the challenges ahead.

Under the leadership of Matt Widlund, HRTLND’s onsite foreman, and the collective efforts of the team, the project encompassed the construction of interior framing, insulation, and drywall – meticulously meeting acoustical requirements. Rich Eddy skillfully navigated the intricacies of the hard lid and wall finishes, seamlessly blending various styles from different eras. Completing the ensemble, Chris Halblom took on the demanding task of installing the acoustical ceiling design, preserving the historical aesthetics.

Despite the challenges and labor-intensive nature of the project, we take immense pride in overcoming every obstacle. The Val Air Ballroom project stands as a testament to collaboration, craftsmanship, and the commitment to preserving history while embracing progress.
