This is the first building in the state of Iowa to be “Red to Green” certified, which is a vetting system to ensure products are the most efficient available, building materials are formulated with minimal environmentally harmful products, and that little to no waste will be on the project. On the roof of the building, you will find solar panels and rainwater tanks that help limit the buildings need for electricity and water. Inside, you’ll see gardens growing on the live walls enticing the public to stop in for a snack. They are truly focused on keeping Iowa beautiful and taking care of its people.

Jeff Lekwa took the lead on this project as HRTLN’D’S onsite foreman, where we constructed the interior framing, drywall, finishing, and plaster ceilings. On the exterior we erected structural metal framing, fluid applied weather barrier, and the unique Accoya Acetylated Wood cladding system.

The cladding system was composed of Green Girt adjustable clips, custom perforated horizontal hat channel provided by Monarch Metal, and vertical Accoya wood siding. Delta Millworks provided two types of finish for the Accoya, burnt / brushed for the perimeter, and natural in the courtyard. It was HRTLND’s first time working with several of these materials, but when all done and put together it’s very easy on the eyes.

At the end of the project the team constructed a beautiful environmentally friendly building that helps serve Iowans and continues towards the pursuit of a better tomorrow.
